Winter Prep Checklist
Ready or not, winter is coming! Here are some of the best tips we have for getting your home winter ready!
Check your home's heating and AC system - At the very least, change your air filters, but an inspection by an HVAC contractor is highly recommended. You don't want to find out that your heater isn't working once the temperatures drop.
Clean your chimney and order firewood - Make sure your chimney is clean and ready to fire up! A large stash of firewood will be extra nice on those extra chilly nights.
Clean your gutters - The best time to do this is after all the leaves have fallen! You don't want that melting snow in the spring to not have a gutter to drain in.
Clean your garage so you can park in it - If you plan on parking in your garage, now is the time to make sure your spot is cleared! That first snow may come sooner than you think.
Check your trees - If any look like they are dying or could be compromised with heavy winter weather, it is a good idea to clear them out before they become a problem.
Plan for snow removal - Find the shovel, buy some salt, test the snow blower or decide on a service to do the heavy lifting for you.
Remove screens from windows - This one isn't dire, but if you want to keep your screens in pristine condition, removing them is your best bet.
Cover outdoor water spigots - Shut off your water to the outside of your house and use an outdoor water spigot cover. You don't want to bust any pipes in freezing temperatures!
Store or cover outdoor furnishings - Winter weather can be harsh on your outdoor furniture. Use protective covers or store them away until spring rolls around.
